New Additional Secretary

Shri P.K. Choudhery, has taken over as Additional Secretary, Department ofCommerce, Ministry ofCommerce and Industry, Government of Indi a on 29th May 2008.

He had worked earlier as Deputy Secretary in the Dept. of Steel, Govt. of India from 1986 to 1990.

An M.Sc. Honours in Physics from Punjab University and a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow Shri Choudhery entered the IAS in 1977. He has since then held various field postings as S D O (Civil), Additional Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner from 1979-86.

He carries with him rich experience in Industrial development and Information Technology by virtue of his earlier assignments such as Managing Director Agro Industries Corporation, Managing Director Industrial Development Corporation, Secretary, Industry and Information Technology and Principal Secretary, Industry & Information Technology from the period 1990 to 2008.

Having himself actively involved in the Industrial development of Haryana a number of initiatives were taken up by Haryana State in Industrial Infrastructure, Industrial Model Townships and Special Economic Zones during this period. He was associated with the formulation of Industrial policies of the State from 1991 to 2005 and had interaction with a number of foreign countries for promotion of FDI. During the last 3 years a number of initiatives were taken by the State in which he was directly involved in fostering the next generation technologies and for promoting information Technology Sector. Some of the other assignments during 2001 to 2005 included Secretary (Education) and Secretary Co-operation.

Personal interests include Golf and Yoga, fostering innovative technologies for incubation and commercialization. Areas include bioelectrical, optoelectronic, nano scale instruments and structures, new materials, alternative energy sources, new drug discovery, genetics and biomedical instruments and interfaces.
