New Commerce Secretary
Shri G.K Pillai, has taken over as the Secretary in the Department of Commerce. Govt. of India. New Delhi. Born in November 1949. Shri G.K. Pillai studied in the Bishop Cotton Boys School, Bangalore and at St. Joseph's College in Bangalore betore obtaining his NlSc from 11T, Madras.
Alter joining the Indian Administrative Service in 1972 in the Kerala Cadre, he has held several important positions in the state like District Collector of Quilon, Special Secretary - Industry; Secretary- Health; Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister etc.
Shri G.K.Pillai had served in the Govt. of India in the Ministries of Defense. Shipping and Transport and Ministry of f tome looking after the North Eastern States. Prior to his appointment as Commerce Secretary, he was Special Secretary in the Department of Commerce handling WTO, KM'I'K & UNCTl1I) matters. He also held charge of rankers relating to SEZ and EOUs and was Chairman of BOA for SEZ: EOU.
Shri G.K. Pillai is married to Mrs. Sudha Pillai a 1972 batch LAS officer of the same Kerala cadre who is presently the 051) in the Ministry of Finance in the rank of Secretary and has a son and a daughter.
He has traveled widely representing India in many forums.
